Awareness Through Movement
GROUP CLASSES
Group classes are usually taught lying down which reduces stress and allows for greater sensibility to your own quality of movement. (These can be adapted if getting down to the floor is not available to you.) I will verbally guide you through a sequence of carefully choreographed movements which you can explore slowly and within your range of comfort bringing awareness to the parts of you that lengthen and the parts that shorted and also to your breath.
In the more challenging movement sequences it is essential to go easy and slowly. It is more important to be accurate and to notice more parts of yourself than to be in a hurry and go to your limits. Pay greater attention to the quality of the movement and explore gently what is comfortable for you. if a movement is not available to you then imaging the movement or just performing the very beginning of a movement can bring about enormous benefits. The awareness these lessons develop have hugely positive effects on your level of comfort in every aspect of day-to-day life.
(I encourage you to wear comfortable clothes which allow you to move easily and to remove glasses, watches and any jewellery that may distract you from sensing your own quality of movement.)
Functional Integration
ONE TO ONE LESSONS
`During these lessons my gentle touch will guide you, the student, through movements in which we will discover your habitual holding patterns and together we will find new possibilities of movement.
These lessons are not designed as therapeutic sessions for a particular symptom but are a learning environment for you to explore your potential by sensing and feeling how you move and how you can include more of yourself to ease the stress of certain parts..
(Please wear socks and comfortable clothes which allow for ease of movement. Long sleeves and trousers are best and bring a pair of clean socks to change into.)
Giles initially trained as a classical musician. Regular Alexander Technique lessons were offered to address tension, pain and performance anxiety. During a career change into professional horticulture he discovered the world of yoga but continuing neck and shoulder pain and a negative prognoses from orthopaedics lead to the discovery of the Feldenkrais Method. Having experienced a lessening of symptoms and changes to his sense of wellbeing he embarked on the four-year certified training programme. He now divides his time between people and plants.
